Rigid point registration circuits

چکیده

In 1996 Freeborough proposed a method for estimating target registration error (TRE) in the absence of ground truth. In his approach, a circuit of registrations is performed using the same registration method on multiple views of the same object: 1 to 2, 2 to 3, ..., NC –1 to NC , and NC to 1 where NC is at least three and the last registration completes the circuit. Any difference between the original and final positions, which we call the “Circuit TRE” or TREC, indicates that at least one step in the registration method suffers from TRE. To estimate the single-step error, TRE1, Freeborough proposed the formula, TRE1 = k x TREC, and suggested that k = 1/square-root-of-NC. Multiple articles have employed Freeborough’s approach to estimate the accuracy of intensity-based registration methods with various values of k, but no theoretical analysis of the expected accuracy of such estimates has been attempted for any registration method. As a first step in this direction, the current work provides such an analysis for the method of rigid point registration, also known as fiducial registration. The analysis, which is validated via computer simulation, reveals that for fiducial registration TREC is zero to first order in FLE and that to second order TRE1 ≈ k x square-root-of-TREC, where k depends on the fiducialtarget configuration. Our new formula, which is shown to be superior to Freeborough’s formula and yet inferior to an earlier one for fiducial registration, is likely to be useful for intensity-based methods.

Rigid multi-modality registration of medical images using point similarity measures

Rigid registration is usually performed as an optimization procedure that searches for an image transformation that gives best similarity between the registered images. Similarity is used as a measure of image correspondence. In this work we present an implementation of rigid multimodality registration based on point similarity measures, which were developed for non-rigid registration tasks. Th...

Multi-scale Non-Rigid Point Cloud Registration Using Robust Sliced-Wasserstein Distance via Laplace-Beltrami Eigenmap

In this work, we propose computational models and algorithms for point cloud registration with non-rigid transformation. First, point clouds sampled from manifolds originally embedded in some Euclidean space RD are transformed to new point clouds embedded in Rn by Laplace-Beltrami(LB) eigenmap using the n leading eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions of LB operator defined intrinsically ...

Robust Non-Rigid Point Set Registration Using Student's-t Mixture Model

The Student's-t mixture model, which is heavily tailed and more robust than the Gaussian mixture model, has recently received great attention on image processing. In this paper, we propose a robust non-rigid point set registration algorithm using the Student's-t mixture model. Specifically, first, we consider the alignment of two point sets as a probability density estimation problem and treat ...

Feature-Based Non-Rigid Registration of Serial Section Images by Blending Rigid Transformations

In this paper, we describe feature-based nonrigid registration of histological serial section images. Our method represents non-rigid deformation by blending the rigid transformations estimated in the local region around a control point. This approach can efficiently represent nonrigid deformation with a smaller number of control points than conventional methods that interpolate displacement, s...

بهبود سرعت "انطباق مبتنی بر روش برش گراف" جهت انطباق غیر صلب تصاویر تشدید مغناطیسی مغز

Image processing methods, which can visualize objects inside the human body, are of special interests. In clinical diagnosis using medical images, integration of useful data from separate images is often desired. The images have to be geometrically aligned for better observation. The procedure of mapping points from the reference image to corresponding points in the floating image is called Ima...
